Work Trip September 2024
I arrived in New York, around 10 a.m. The weather looks great outside. It was a full flight so I had to gate check my carry on luggage. I found baggage claim, got my luggage. I saw the sign for the Uber/Lfyt pick up, which was supposed to be door 9 to 11 but when I went into my Lyft app, I was instructed to go to door 13. Luckily it was quick and simple. I was able to get to door 13 to meet my Lyft driver. He was driving a 2022 Toyota sienna hybrid. I had a difficult time communicating with him as he doesn’t speak much English. I was the only passenger in…

Travel Project First Quarter 2024: Week 7
First, my out flights were somewhat sad First flight out was delayed 40 minutes but did make my connecting flight. The 2nd flight was over an hour late so my arrival was about 30 minutes late. The return flights were also smooth sailing. It’s sad when the check in gate agent remembers you. Second, the hotel was tolerable. The smell is worse this week. There is a bus load of students staying here and the first night was not restful as there was talking and running throughout the night. It was not a restful night. My biggest complaint was the smell in the common area by the main entrance. There was a sewage smell each time I entered and…

Travel Project First Quarter 2024: Week 6
I am so grateful for a relatively smooth travel week. First, my flights were good. Things started well as my flights out were on time. The return flights were also smooth sailing. It’s sad when the check in gate agent remembers you. Second, the hotel was tolerable. However, my room was three doors from the elevator but fortunately, the noise was tolerable. There were definitely loud noises between 6p to 10p but otherwise, it was quiet. My biggest complaint was the smell in the common area by the main entrance. There was a sewage smell each time I entered and left the hotel. Yes, a sewage like smell. I was very grateful that elsewhere in the hotel was…

Travel Project First Quarter 2024: Week 5
First, my flights were good and bad. Things started well as my flights out were on time. I arrived on time so that is good. Unfortunately, my return flights were somewhat of a nightmare. As I was in the airport, waiting for my 3:30p boarding time, I got a message that said my flight is delayed. The delay time kept increasing. The gate agent said to talk to customer service to find alternative options. The representative on the phone couldn’t get me on any other flight home that evening so I decided to just take my chance with the original flight. The end result was I got off my plane at 7:50p at gate 30 and my…

Travel Project First Quarter 2024: Week 4
Traveling for work can be exhausting without issues but if there are travel issues, it does make it even more exhausting. Fortunately, I am happy to report that it was smooth sailing relative to my work travel this week. I will summarize my flight, hotel, rental car, and food options for week 4 of this project. First, all of my flights arrived on time so I was able to make all connecting flights and arrived in my final destinations as expected. Of course, it’s not perfect as my return initial flight was delayed 30 minutes but a 30 minute delay with a two and a half hour layover is not an issue. I am…
