Work Trip September 2024
I arrived in New York, around 10 a.m. The weather looks great outside. It was a full flight so I had to gate check my carry on luggage. I found baggage claim, got my luggage. I saw the sign for the Uber/Lfyt pick up, which was supposed to be door 9 to 11 but when I went into my Lyft app, I was instructed to go to door 13. Luckily it was quick and simple. I was able to get to door 13 to meet my Lyft driver. He was driving a 2022 Toyota sienna hybrid. I had a difficult time communicating with him as he doesn’t speak much English. I was the only passenger in the van so it was pretty nice and spacious, It took about one hour to get to my hotel. I’m staying at a Hilton hotel, close to the office where I will be this week. Weather was sunny and in the 70s. It was about 12:15pm by the time I arrived at the hotel. I had planned to work in the hotel lobby but they told me that my room was ready so I headed straight to my room. The hotel and room is somewhat outdated but clean. My biggest complaint is why they don’t have a microwave in each room. They do have a small refrigerator and a coffee maker.
Food
Upon arrival in the hotel, I had a late lunch in the restaurant next to the hotel and it was not a pleasant experience. The only decent food was the chicken dumpling. Oh well, it should suffice until dinner. I had Chinese for dinner. Food was better than my late lunch. The rest of the week’s lunch was take-out pizza for lunch, sandwich and chips, and leftover. As for dinner, I ate at the hotel’s restaurant. It was chicken wings. It was average. I ordered dinner via DoorDash. I just didn’t feel like venturing out this week.
Travel: I am so grateful for an uneventful flight to and from NY. I am also back flying with Delta. I decided not to rent a car so I car-pooled with a coworker to and from hotel to office. I arrived home safely on Thursday evening.
As this is my first trip to this client’s office, I am grateful that things went well. I am always happy to meet my team in person. There is no replacement for that in person connection.
